This Percy Ellis project which is entirely geothermal is close to completion.
The building is located at 41 River Street in Toronto. It's located between Toronto's Regent Park neighbourhood and the Lower Don Valley.

Several measures have been taken to maximize environmental friendliness. Each unit's utilities will be separately metered for the amount of electricity, gas, and water consumed to encourage energy conservation while keeping monthly costs low for tenants. Geothermal energy is also being used throughout the building—harnessing the heat energy just feet below the ground, and converting it into warm air through the use of geothermal heat pumps—and resulting in big savings on energy costs.

Outstanding news for Toronto as City Council approves a strategy to reduce building emissions to net-zero.

This plan includes:

A Net Zero Existing Buildings Strategy to decarbonize all existing residential, commercial, and institutional buildings within the next 30 years; a Net Zero Carbon Plan to reduce emissions in City-owned buildings; and, an update to the Toronto Green Standard to achieve net-zero emissions in new development by 2030.

Green Recovery will mean more geothermal -Despite the pandemic, cities like Toronto, Montreal, and New York are still moving to mini-splits, VRFs, chilled beams, ERVs, heat pump water heaters, and ground source heat pumps. One of the untold stories is that ground source systems in Ontario’s countryside may be more numerous than previously known.

Check out our latest customer story about Toronto's Liberty Village.

One of the first green builders in Canada was Windmill Developments and one of the early developers in Liberty Village was Curated Properties. The two have joined forces to create The Plant, a mixed-use clean energy building on the former site of Dufflet Bakery at the foot of Dovercourt Avenue. It will be completely heated and cooled by an environment-friendly geothermal system, heat pumps, energy recovery ventilators, and will include electric car charging, bicycle areas, and a tight building envelope.
